Introduction

Living and non-living things are all around us. But do you know the difference between them?

Living Things

Living things are plants and animals that can grow, reproduce, and respond to their surroundings. Here are some examples:

  • Plants like trees, flowers, and grass
  • Animals like dogs, cats, and birds

Non-Living Things

Non-living things do not grow, reproduce, or respond. They are made by people or occur naturally. Examples include:

  • Rocks
  • Toys
  • Tables

Fun Activity

Go on a nature walk and try to identify living and non-living things around you. You can make a list or draw pictures of what you find.

Remember

  • Living things can grow, reproduce, and respond.
  • Non-living things do not grow, reproduce, or respond.
  • Plants and animals are examples of living things.
  • Rocks and toys are examples of non-living things.
