Introduction

Plants and animals are living things that are all around us. They are important for our environment and have different characteristics.

Plants

Plants are living things that make their own food using sunlight, water, and air. They have roots, stems, leaves, and sometimes flowers. Examples of plants are trees, flowers, grass, and vegetables.

Animals

Animals are living things that move around, eat food, and breathe. They come in different shapes and sizes. Some animals have fur, feathers, or scales. Examples of animals are dogs, cats, birds, fish, and insects.

Fun Activity

Go outside and observe plants and animals in your surroundings. Try to identify different types of plants and animals. Draw a picture of your favorite plant and animal.

Remember

  • Plants make their own food through a process called photosynthesis.
  • Animals move, eat, and breathe to survive.
  • Both plants and animals are important for our environment.
