Energy

Lesson 10 of 30
1 min read Mathew Wahome

Introduction

Energy is the ability to do work or make things move. Everything around us needs energy to work, just like how we need food to have energy to play and study.

Types of Energy

1. Kinetic Energy

  • Definition: This is the energy of moving objects.
  • Example: When you kick a ball, the ball moves because of the kinetic energy in your leg.

2. Potential Energy

  • Definition: This is energy that is stored and waiting to be used.
  • Example: A stretched rubber band has potential energy because it can snap back when released.

Fun Activity

Try this fun experiment at home:

  • Take a small ball and a ramp (a sloping surface).
  • Place the ball at the top of the ramp and let it roll down.
  • Observe how the ball gains kinetic energy as it moves.

Remember

  • Energy is needed for things to work.
  • Kinetic energy is energy of moving objects.
  • Potential energy is stored energy waiting to be used.
  • We can find energy in different forms around us.
  • Always remember to conserve energy by turning off lights and appliances when not in use.
