Number Patterns

Introduction

Number patterns are sequences of numbers that follow a certain rule or pattern. By understanding these patterns, we can predict the next numbers in the sequence.

Increasing Patterns

Imagine you have a sequence of numbers: $2, 4, 6, 8, 10$. Do you notice a pattern? Each number is 2 more than the previous one. This is an increasing pattern.

Decreasing Patterns

Now, let's look at another sequence: $12, 10, 8, 6, 4$. Each number is 2 less than the previous one. This is a decreasing pattern.

Repeating Patterns

In repeating patterns, the same group of numbers repeats over and over. For example: $3, 6, 9, 3, 6, 9$. This pattern keeps repeating the numbers 3, 6, and 9.

Fun Activity

Create your own number pattern using even numbers. Start with a number and keep adding 2 to each number to continue the pattern.

Remember

  • Number patterns follow a rule or pattern.
  • Patterns can be increasing, decreasing, or repeating.
  • Try to predict the next numbers in the sequence based on the pattern.
