Introduction
Crop production is the process of growing plants for food, fiber, and other uses. It involves planting seeds, taking care of the plants, and harvesting the crops when they are ready.
Types of Crops
- Food Crops: These are plants grown for people to eat, like maize, beans, and vegetables.
- Cash Crops: These are crops that are grown to sell for money, such as tea, coffee, and cotton.
Stages of Crop Production
- Planting: This is when seeds are put into the soil to grow. Just like when you plant seeds in your garden at home.
- Caring for the Plants: Plants need water, sunlight, and nutrients from the soil to grow well. You can compare it to taking care of a pet or a plant at home.
- Harvesting: This is when the crops are ready to be picked. For example, when you pick ripe tomatoes from your garden.

Fun Activity
Plant some seeds in a small pot or in your backyard. Take care of the plants by watering them and giving them sunlight. Watch them grow and see how they change over time.
Remember
- Plants need water, sunlight, and nutrients to grow.
- Different crops have different growing seasons.
- Harvesting is when you pick the crops when they are ready.
