Grammar

Lesson 40 of 98
1 min read Mathew Wahome

Introduction

Grammar is like the rules of a language. It helps us know how to put words together correctly when we speak or write.

Parts of Speech

  • Nouns: Nouns are names of people, places, animals, things, or ideas. For example, in the sentence "Tom plays with a ball," "Tom" is a noun.
  • Verbs: Verbs show actions or states of being. For example, in the sentence "She dances beautifully," "dances" is a verb.

Sentence Structure

  • Subject: The subject is the person, place, thing, or idea that the sentence is about. For example, in the sentence "The cat is sleeping," "The cat" is the subject.
  • Predicate: The predicate tells us what the subject is doing or what is happening. For example, in the sentence "She sings a song," "sings a song" is the predicate.

Fun Activity

Try making up a sentence using a noun and a verb. For example, "The bird sings."

Remember

  • Nouns are names of people, places, animals, things, or ideas.
  • Verbs show actions or states of being.
  • A sentence has a subject and a predicate.
