Plants

Lesson 12 of 30
1 min read Mathew Wahome

Introduction

Plants are living things that grow in soil. They need water, air, sunlight, and nutrients to survive.

Parts of a Plant

Plants have different parts that help them grow:

  • Roots: Roots help plants take in water and nutrients from the soil. For example, carrots have roots that we eat.
  • Stem: The stem holds up the plant and carries water from the roots to the leaves. Think of a flower stem that holds up a beautiful bloom.
  • Leaves: Leaves make food for the plant using sunlight. They are like tiny solar panels on the plant.

How Plants Grow

Plants grow from seeds. When you plant a seed in soil, give it water and sunlight, it will sprout and grow into a plant. Just like when you plant a bean seed and watch it grow into a bean plant.

Fun Activity

Try planting a seed in a small pot with soil. Water it every day and put it in a sunny spot. Watch how it grows into a plant over time.

Remember

  • Plants need water, air, sunlight, and nutrients to grow.
  • Plants have roots, stems, and leaves that help them grow.
  • Plants grow from seeds when given the right conditions.
