Naming Foods

Naming Foods

Foods we eat

  • Staple foods: maize, rice, sweet potatoes, bananas, cassava
  • Vegetables: kale (sukuma wiki), cabbage, spinach
  • Fruits: mango, orange, pawpaw
  • Drinks: water, milk, porridge

In your mother tongue

Ask your family for the name of each food in your mother tongue. Make a list and read it aloud.

Healthy eating

Eat a mix of foods: body-building (beans), energy (ugali), and protective (fruits and vegetables).

Try it

  • Name three foods in your mother tongue.
  • Tell your favourite food.
  • Draw a healthy meal.
