Living and non-living things

Introduction

Living things are things that can grow, move, breathe, eat, and reproduce. Non-living things are things that do not have these abilities.

Living Things

  • Plants: Trees, flowers, grass
  • Animals: Dogs, cats, birds
  • People: You, your family

Non-Living Things

  • Toys: Dolls, cars, balls
  • Objects: Chair, table, book

Fun Activity

Go for a nature walk and try to identify living and non-living things around you. Make a list or draw pictures of what you find.

Remember

  • Living things can grow, move, breathe, eat, and reproduce.
  • Non-living things do not have these abilities.
  • Examples of living things include plants, animals, and people. Examples of non-living things include toys and objects.
