Forces and motion
Introduction
In science, we learn about forces and motion. Forces are pushes or pulls that make things move or stop. Motion is when something changes its position.
Forces
- Gravity: Gravity is the force that pulls everything towards the Earth. For example, when you drop a ball, gravity pulls it down.
- Friction: Friction is a force that slows things down when they rub against each other. For instance, when you ride a bike, the brakes create friction to stop the wheels.
- Push and Pull: Pushing a swing makes it move forward, while pulling it back makes it swing backward.
Motion
- Straight Line Motion: When a car moves in a straight line on a road.
- Circular Motion: When a merry-go-round spins in circles at the playground.
Fun Activity
You can try this fun activity to understand forces and motion better:
- Take a toy car and push it on a smooth surface. Observe how far it goes before stopping. Now, push it harder and see if it goes further. This shows the force applied affects how far the car moves.
Remember
- Forces can make objects move or stop.
- Gravity pulls things towards the Earth.
- Friction slows things down when they rub against each other.
- Push and pull are types of forces that can change the motion of objects.
