Whole Numbers
Introduction
Whole numbers are numbers that start from zero and continue counting upwards without any decimal or fraction parts. They are used for counting whole objects like apples, pencils, or people.
What are Whole Numbers?
Counting with Whole Numbers
Imagine you have 3 apples. The numbers you use to count the apples are whole numbers. They are 1, 2, 3, 4, and so on.
Adding Whole Numbers
If you have 2 pencils and you get 3 more, you can add them together using whole numbers. For example:
$$
2 + 3 = 5
$$
Subtracting Whole Numbers
When you have 5 friends and 2 of them leave, you can subtract using whole numbers. For example:
$$
5 - 2 = 3
$$
Fun Activity
Counting Game:
Gather some objects like stones, toys, or buttons. Ask a friend to close their eyes while you hide some of the objects. Let them open their eyes and guess how many are hidden. Use whole numbers to count and check the answer together.
Remember
- Whole numbers start from zero and go on forever.
