Grade 4 · Mathematics 1 min read

Introduction

Division is a way of sharing or grouping things equally. It helps us split a whole into smaller parts.

What is Division?

Sharing Equally

Imagine you have 12 sweets and you want to share them equally among 3 friends. You will give each friend 4 sweets. This is division.

Grouping Items

If you have 15 pencils and want to put them into 3 pencil cases, you will need to divide them equally. Each pencil case will have 5 pencils.

Fun Activity

Grab some candies or toys and divide them among your family members or friends. See if you can share them equally!

Remember

  • Division is splitting things into equal parts.
  • The number being divided is called the dividend.
  • The number we divide by is the divisor.
  • The answer we get is called the quotient.
  • Always check your work by multiplying the quotient with the divisor to see if you get the dividend.
