Vocabulary Building

Grade 1 · English 1 min read

Today, we will learn about building our vocabulary, which means learning new words to help us communicate better.

Section 1: Naming Things

When we learn new words, we can name different things around us. For example, a "bird" is a creature that can fly in the sky. Can you think of other things you see every day and what they are called?

Section 2: Describing Words

We can also learn words that describe things. For instance, "big" describes something large in size, while "small" describes something tiny. Can you find things in your classroom and describe them using words like "big" or "small"?

Quick Activity: Look around you and write down three things you see. Then, try to find a new word to describe each of those things.

Section 3: Action Words

Action words tell us what someone or something is doing. For example, "run" is an action word because it tells us about moving fast. Can you think of other action words like "jump" or "eat"?

Section 4: Putting Words Together

Sometimes, we can put words together to make sentences. For example, "The cat is sleeping" uses different words to tell us about what the cat is doing. Can you try making a sentence with a new word you have learned today?

Quick Activity: Draw a picture of something you like and label it with as many new words as you can from today's lesson.

By learning new words, we can describe things better and talk about what we see and do.
