Measurements

Introduction

Measurements help us understand and compare the sizes of different things. We use measurements to know how long, how heavy, or how much of something we have.

Length

  • Example: When you measure how long your desk is using a ruler, you are measuring length.
  • Example: Your height is a measurement of length. You can measure it from your feet to the top of your head.

Weight

  • Example: When you use a scale to see how heavy your bag is, you are measuring weight.
  • Example: Fruits like bananas and apples have different weights. You can compare their weights using a scale.

Fun Activity

Measure the length of different objects in your house using a ruler. Write down the measurements and compare them.

Remember

  • Always use the correct units when measuring: centimeters, meters, grams, or kilograms.
  • Length is how long something is, weight is how heavy something is.
  • Practice measuring things around you to get better at understanding measurements.
