Introduction
In mathematics, we use measurement to find out how big or small things are. We measure things to know their length, weight, capacity, and time.
Length
- Example: You can measure the length of your table using a ruler. It tells you how long the table is.
- Example: You can measure how tall you are using a measuring tape.
- Example: When baking a cake, you can measure the length of a baking pan to fit the cake.
Weight
- Example: You can measure how heavy your school bag is using a weighing scale. It tells you how many kilograms it weighs.
- Example: In the market, fruits are weighed to know how heavy they are.
- Example: Your pet's weight can be measured at the vet's clinic using a scale.
Fun Activity
Ask a family member to help you measure different items in your house using a ruler or measuring tape. Record the measurements in a notebook.
Remember
- Always use the correct unit of measurement (cm, kg, L) for what you are measuring.
- Practice measuring different things around you to get better at it.
- Measurement helps us understand the size and weight of objects.
