Introduction
Division is a way of sharing things equally among a group. It helps us divide a total into smaller, equal parts.
Sharing Equally
Imagine you have 12 cookies, and you want to share them equally among 3 friends. Each friend will get an equal number of cookies. This is division.
$$12 \div 3 = 4$$
So, each friend will get 4 cookies.
Repeated Subtraction
Another way to think about division is through repeated subtraction. For example, if you have 10 apples and you want to share them equally among 2 people, you can keep subtracting 2 apples from the total until you have none left.
$$10 - 2 = 8$$ $$8 - 2 = 6$$ $$6 - 2 = 4$$ $$4 - 2 = 2$$ $$2 - 2 = 0$$
So, each person will get 5 apples.
Fun Activity
Gather some toys or candies and practice division by sharing them equally among your family members or friends. Count how many each person gets!
Remember
- Division is sharing things equally.
- It helps us split a total into equal parts.
