Reading Comprehension
Introduction
Reading comprehension is understanding what you read. It means being able to read a passage or story and know what it is about.
Concepts
1. Finding the Main Idea
- The main idea is the most important point in a passage.
- Example: If you read a story about a dog playing in the park, the main idea is about the dog having fun.
2. Understanding Details
- Details are facts or information that support the main idea.
- Example: In the story about the dog, details could be the color of the dog, the toys it played with, and how it felt running in the park.
Fun Activity
Try reading a short story and drawing a picture of the main idea and some details you remember. Share your drawing with a friend or family member to see if they understand the story too!
Remember
- The main idea is the most important point in a passage.
- Details support the main idea.
- Understanding both the main idea and details helps you comprehend what you read.
