Plant Propagation

Grade 5 · Agriculture 1 min read

Introduction

Plant propagation is the process of creating new plants from seeds, cuttings, or other plant parts. It helps us grow more plants without having to buy them from a store.

Plant Propagation by Seeds

Plants like maize and beans grow from seeds. When you plant a seed in the soil, water it, and give it sunlight, it will sprout and grow into a new plant.

Plant Propagation by Cuttings

Some plants, like roses and mint, can be grown from cuttings. You can take a small piece of the plant, put it in water or soil, and it will grow roots and leaves to become a new plant.

Fun Activity

Try growing a plant from a seed or a cutting at home! You can use a small pot, soil, and water to see how plants grow.

Remember

  • Plants can be grown from seeds or cuttings.
  • Plants need water, sunlight, and soil to grow.
  • Be patient when growing plants - they take time to grow big and strong.
