Listening and Speaking
Introduction
Listening and speaking are important skills that help us communicate with others. When we listen carefully to what someone is saying, and speak clearly when we want to share our thoughts, we can have great conversations!
Listening
- Everyday Example: Imagine you are listening to your teacher read a story in class. You pay attention to the words she says and try to understand the plot.
- Everyday Example: At home, you listen to your parents when they give you instructions on how to do your chores.
Speaking
- Everyday Example: When you answer a question in class, you speak confidently to share your answer with your classmates.
- Everyday Example: When you play with your friends, you use your words to tell them what game you want to play.
Fun Activity
Practice listening and speaking by playing the "Telephone Game" with your friends. Sit in a circle and whisper a sentence to the person next to you. They should then whisper it to the next person, and so on. See if the final sentence is the same as the original one!
Remember
- Listen carefully when someone is speaking to you.
- Speak clearly and confidently when sharing your thoughts.
- Communication is a two-way street - it's important to both listen and speak in a conversation.
