Listening and Speaking Skills

Introduction

Listening and speaking skills are important in communication. When we listen well, we understand what others are saying. When we speak clearly, others can understand us.

Listening Skills

Listening means paying attention to someone speaking. Example: When your teacher is explaining a lesson, you listen carefully to understand.

Speaking Skills

Speaking means using words to communicate your thoughts and ideas. Example: When you tell a story to your friend, you are using your speaking skills.

Fun Activity

Activity: Find a family member or friend. Take turns telling each other short stories. Listen carefully to their stories too.

Remember

  • Listen carefully when someone is speaking to you.
  • Speak clearly and calmly so others can understand you.
  • Practice speaking and listening every day to improve your skills.
