Writing

Introduction

Writing is a way of putting your thoughts and ideas down on paper using letters and words.

What is Writing?

  • Letters: Letters are symbols that represent sounds. When we put letters together, they make words.
    • Example: The letter "A" makes the "ah" sound like in "apple" or "cat".
  • Words: Words are groups of letters that have meaning. When we write, we use different words to express our thoughts.
    • Example: "Dog", "happy", "run", "play" are all words.

How to Write

  • Sentences: Sentences are groups of words that make complete thoughts. They start with a capital letter and end with a punctuation mark like a period (.), question mark (?), or exclamation mark (!).
    • Example: "I like to read books." is a sentence.

Fun Activity

Try writing a short story about your favorite animal. Use sentences to describe what your animal likes to do and how it looks.

Remember

  • Start each sentence with a capital letter.
  • End each sentence with a punctuation mark.
  • Use words to express your ideas clearly.
  • Practice writing every day to become better at it.
