Reading Comprehension

Introduction

Reading comprehension is all about understanding what we read. It helps us make sense of the stories and information we come across.

Understanding the Story

When we read a story, we need to understand what is happening. For example, if we read a story about a cat, we should be able to tell someone what the story is about.

Example: Question: What is the story about? Answer: The story is about a cat.

Recalling Details

Sometimes, the story will have some details that are important. These details help us understand the story better.

Example: Question: What color was the cat in the story? Answer: The cat in the story was white.

Making Connections

When we read, we can also connect the story to things we know. This helps us understand the story even more.

Example: Question: Have you seen a cat before? Answer: Yes, I have a cat at home.

Quick Activity

Read a short story and then try to answer these questions:

  1. What is the story about?
  2. Who are the main characters in the story?
  3. What is your favorite part of the story?

Summary: Reading comprehension is about understanding and remembering what we read.
