Poetry

Today we will learn about poetry, which is a type of writing that uses words in a special way to create feelings and pictures in our minds.

What is Poetry?

Poetry is like a song without music. It can be short or long and is written in lines. Sometimes poems rhyme, which means the words at the end of the lines sound the same.

Example:

Rain, rain, go away,
Come again another day.

Types of Poetry

  1. Rhyming Poems: These poems have words that sound the same at the end of each line.

    Example:

    Twinkle, twinkle, little star,
How I wonder what you are.

  2. Acrostic Poems: In these poems, the first letter of each line spells out a word or message.

    Example:

    Cats are cuddly
    All day long
    Tails up high
    Soft fur to touch

Quick Activity: Write a short rhyming poem about your favorite animal using words that sound the same at the end of each line.

Poetry is a fun way to play with words and create beautiful pictures in our minds.
